Massimo Candiani

Massimo Candiani is the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Ospedale San Raffaele Clinical Research Institute and collaborates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina Clinic in Milan.

Since 2009, he has been an ordinary professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and Director of the School of Specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology of the same university. Since 2018 he has been the Chairman of SEGI (Italian Society of Endoscopic Gynecology).

After graduating in 1993 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, he completed a specialization in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pavia with honors. He continued his studies in France at the Polyclinique Gynécologie - Obstétrique, Médicine de la Reproduction, CHU Clermont Ferrand, Université de Clermont Ferrand, and then, returning to Italy, worked in the Gynecological Oncology Service of the Clinica Mangiagalli Clinic and European Institute of Oncology. In 2004, he became an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Milan, and in 2005 he worked at the Azienda Ospedaliera San Paolo Hospital in Milan, first as the Head of the Department of Endoscopic Surgery and Gynecological Surgery of Benign Tumors Service, and then as the Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic.

The constant use and progressive development of endoscopic methods since 1991 gave Professor Candiani the opportunity to perform surgical treatment of benign gynecological diseases (surgery of the appendages and uterus, endometriosis, prolapse of the pelvic organs, uterine and vaginal malformations), and then introduce endoscopic methods in gynecological oncology for performing interventions on determining the stage of the disease and / or radical interventions. Recently, Professor Candiani has shown serious interest in a new branch of surgery - correction of spina bifida in the uterus, as well as assessment, diagnosis and surgical treatment of female genital malformation. The development and continuous application of vaginal surgery techniques complete the picture of his extensive surgical experience.

In addition, Professor Candiani is a member of numerous national and international scientific societies: the American Fertility Society; American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists; European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy, Italian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Honorary Member of the Societad Ecuadoriana de Endoscopia Ginecologica filial de la Societad Iberoamericana de Endoscopia Ginecologica. Professor is a Member of the Board of Directors of SIELG (Italian Society of Endoscopy and Laser Therapy in Gynecology), Board of Directors of the University Center for Experimental Fetal Surgery of the University of Milan, Executive Committee of the European Society for Gynaecologic Endoscopy (ESGE). He is a member of the Board of the Foundation Fondazione LANG - PARDI ITALIA and Vice President of the Foundation Fondazione Donna e Feto. From 2015 to 2018, he was Deputy Chairman of SEGI (Italian Society of Endoscopic Gynecology). He was also a member of the CSS (Superior Council of Health) of the Ministry of Health. He is the author of about 300 articles in reputable national and international scientific journals.
