Matteo Montorfano
Biography
Dr Matteo Montorfano is the Head of the Operative Unit of Interventional Cardiology and Hemodynamics at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital. Since 2008 he is Director of the Unit for percutaneous treatment of valve and structural heart diseases. He also works at Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan, he specialized in Cardiology at the Sapienza University of Rome. Since 2005 he is Professor of the Master Course in Cardiology at the University Vita e Salute San Raffaele in Milan.
He has been involved in Interventional Cardiology for over 20 years, gaining extensive experience in performing cardio-vascular interventions. He has more than 10,000 coronary interventions (PTCA) and peripheral interventions including percutaneous transluminal carotid angioplasty (PTA). In addition, he conducts more than 500 per year for complex structural pathologies such as percutaneous valve replacement (TAVI), auricular closure and treatment of cardiac pathologies.
Within his intense research activity, Dr Matteo Montorfano is a speaker at numerous national and international conferences, responsible investigator of numerous clinical trials and author of over 250 scientific articles published in international journals. He is a co-founder of Cephea Valve Technologies, a start-up company developing a transcatheter mitral valve prosthesis, and author of several patents for percutaneous heart valve treatment.
