Biography

Dr. Pietro Acquati is the Head of the Complex Urology Unit at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato. He also serves as a urologist at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio and Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

As an expert in pediatric lithiasis (kidney stones), he acts as a consultant and performs surgeries at the Vittore Buzzi Children's Hospital in Milan.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 2000 and specialized in Urology at the same university in 2005.

During his specialization years (2003-2004), he earned a diploma in the XI Advanced Course in Mountain Medicine with European recognition from MEDCOM-ICAR-ISMM-UIAA and was registered as an accompanying physician for high-altitude expeditions.

His primary areas of interest include:

  • Endourological and minimally invasive surgery for adult and pediatric lithiasis
  • Endourological surgery for tumors of the upper urinary tract
  • Endourological surgery for BPH (Thulep – Thuvap)
  • Robot-assisted surgery applied to uro-oncological and reconstructive pathology

At previous university hospital facilities, he was responsible for managing the Permanent Core for the Evaluation and Updating of Informed Consent.

Over the years, he has been involved in organizing and managing healthcare and social-health projects in sub-Saharan Africa, Pakistan, and India. He collaborated with the SIUT Pediatric Hospital in Karachi as an expert in pediatric endourology for complex lithiasis. He also trained urologic surgeons at the Camillian Hospital HOSCO in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, as an expert in endourology.

Dr. Acquati has organized first and second-level endourology courses (RIRS – ECIRS) and frequently serves as a moderator and speaker at national and international conferences.

He is a member of:

  • The Italian Society of Urology (SIU), where he serves as a reference in the clinical group on "Italian guidelines for lithiasis"
  • The Italian Society of Endourology (IEA)
  • The European Association of Urology (EAU)

Additionally, he is active in research and has published scientific articles in national and international journals.
