Renzo Colombo
Biography
Dr. Renzo Colombo is the coordinator of the uro-oncological care of the Urological Department of the IRCCS San Raffaele in Milan under the supervision of Professor Francesco Montorsi.
In 1981 he graduated in medicine and surgery, in 1986 he specialized in surgery of the digestive system and digestive endoscopy, and in 1991 in urology at the University of Milan. During his studies, he completed an internship in open surgery and laparoscopic surgery at the Universities of Bern and Berlin. Since 1995, he has been a tutor for students of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Vita-Salute in San Raffaele, and in 2012 he qualified as a second-level professor of the university in the field of urology.
The clinical practice of Dr. Colombo includes all urological pathologies, including benign prostatic hyperplasia and ureteral stones, with all endoscopic forms of treatment, as well as complex iatrogenic and post-traumatic urological lesions. The main interest has always been the treatment of bladder, prostate, and kidney cancer. Dr. Colombo's personal history of more than 8,000 mid-to-high level surgical interventions as a first surgeon includes both destructive and reconstructive interventions for oncological diseases with a particular focus on radical prostatectomy with open and robotic technique (Da Vinci), as well as for radical and conservative operations by open and laparoscopic methods for kidney neoplasms. In particular, Dr. Colombo is responsible for the development of original surgical nerve-sparing techniques in the treatment of radical cystectomy, bladder neoplasms in young patients, to which numerous scientific publications of national and international interest for study are devoted.
From 1985 to the present, he has authored/co-authored more than 600 publications, more than 200 of which have been reviewed in international scientific journals. His Hirsch Index is 41.
Dr. Colombo is an official reviewer for the following scientific journals: European Urology, Journal of Urology, British Journal of Urology International, Urology Internationalis, and Current Opinion in Urology. Since 2012 he has been the Coordinator of the Lombard Cancer Network (ROL) for Bladder Neoplasms, since 2016 he has been the President of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Private Urology (UROP), since 2017 he has been the Lombard Regional Delegate of the Italian Society of Urology (SIU) and since 2018 he has been Vice President of the Italian Society of Urological Oncology (SIUrO).
