Sergio Romagnoli

Biography

Dr. Sergio Romagnoli is the head of the Prosthetic Surgery Center at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio and collaborates with the Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

After obtaining his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Genoa, he specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Milan.
From 1983 to 1986, he was an Assistant in the Department of Prosthetic Surgery of the Knee and Hip at the Santa Corona Hospital, Pietra Ligure (SV), Italy.
From 1987 to 1994, he was Assistant Chief at the same department, and from 1994 to 2000, he was Head of the Knee Prosthetic Surgery Service at the Santa Corona Hospital, Pietra Ligure (SV), Italy.

During his career, Dr. Romagnoli has performed over 20,000 joint reconstructions in adults, the majority being hip and knee prosthetic surgeries.
He teaches both in Italy and abroad. From 1987 to 1992, he was a Lecturer in the Prosthetic Surgery Course at the Muller Institute in Bern. From 2002 to 2004, he taught at the Excellence in Joint Arthroplasty organized by the Scientific Seminar for the Asia Pacific in Australia, and from 2004 to 2006, he was a Professor at the Master's in Surgical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan in collaboration with the Bioengineering Department.

From 2003 to 2005, he was an Adjunct Professor at the School of Specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Milan.
He is part of important expert groups. He was President of the Italian Group of Unicompartmental Users (GIUM) and a member of the Commission for Orthopedic Technologies of SIGASCOT (Italian Society of Knee, Arthroscopy, Sport, Cartilage, and Orthopedic Technologies) and the Board of the Italian Society of Robotic, Minimally Invasive, and Day Surgery (SICORMeD).

In 2016, he organized and chaired the XVI SICOOP Congress (Italian Society of Orthopedic Surgery of Private Hospitals).
He is a member of several scientific societies: SIOT (Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology), SIGASCOT (Italian Society of Knee, Arthroscopy, Sport, Cartilage, and Orthopedic Technologies), EKS (European Knee Society).

In 2001, he conducted an international study on Gait Analysis in patients with different types of knee prostheses, supported by the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Milan and the Biomotion Foundation in California (USA). The results of this and other research have been published in indexed specialized journals. He is the author of several publications (currently over 40) and congress presentations (more than 200) on hip and knee prosthetic surgery.
