Breast imaging professionals follow the patient in all phases of diagnosis and treatment, from mammography screening, diagnosis, staging, up to assisting in surgical and oncological treatment, and in follow-up.
Breast imaging plays an indispensable role in the evaluation of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients who are referred for radiological diagnostics. Also, it is essential for all asymptomatic patients who participate in the annual mammography screening program.

Breast Imaging Unit of Ospedale San Raffaele, in collaboration with the Politecnico University of Milan, studies application of light (optical imaging) in the diagnosis of breast cancer, together with projects funded by the European Community and the Umberto Veronesi Foundation.
