Post-Covid Rehabilitation
In 2020, Gruppo San Donato pioneered the establishment of a specialized rehabilitation program for Covid-19 patients who were still infectious. The initiative, led by Ospedale San Raffaele, aimed to restore motor, respiratory, and neurological functions lost during the acute phase of the disease as quickly as possible.
The department has provided 360 ° rehabilitation therapy thanks to the daily commitment of a multidisciplinary team of nurses and medical specialists, which include physiatrists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, pulmonologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, cardiologists, otolaryngologists, physiotherapists and nutritionists.
Over 150 patients were treated in April and May 2020: the innovative organizational approach and the therapies practiced have been an example for other hospitals in Italy and around the world. The results obtained are now published in some of the major scientific journals in the sector, including the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
