Oral and dental implant surgery
What is it?
Oral surgery deals with surgical emergencies (abscesses, bleeding, trauma) and procedures related to complex extractions of included elements, removal of maxillary cysts, surgical-orthodontic disinclusions, removal of neoformations of alveolar processes.
When is this procedure indicated?
Oral surgery is indicated in all cases in which dental procedures require a surgical approach.
How is it performed?
Under local anesthesia, a surgical flap is performed to allow a better access to the affected area. Surgical techniques vary depending on the procedure to be performed. In oral surgery, as in all branches of dentistry, a first-level radiographic examination (endoral rx and OPT) is required, often accompanied by a second-level radiographic examination (CBCT) to visualize the area three-dimensionally, so as to operate with maximum respect for the anatomical structures. The surgery concludes with the application of sutures to allow flap juxtaposition and healing by first intention, when it's possible.
In some cases, conscious sedation may be required. The patient's vital signs are constantly monitored by the anesthesiologist during surgery.
