Total body irradiation

What is it?

Total Body Irradiation (TBI) is a part of combined chemoradiation therapy schemes used for patients with haematological malignancies requiring bone marrow transplantation.

When is this procedure indicated?

Total Body Irradiation (TBI) is performed for marrow and peripheral stem cell transplant protocols. In addition, treatment protocols have been defined for Total Marrow Irradiation. 

How is it performed?

The patient undergoes a total body centering aTC, which is used for treatment planning that involves irradiating the entire body with low doses that are as homogeneous as possible.

Recovery

The time required to perform these treatments is agreed upon with the Oncohematology Unit.
