Project Aim
Strengthening of the academic training of the "Medical Assistant" figure through the inclusion of theoretical notions of "Family Medicine"; improvement of the training course at the "Ahmed Gasim" site (as a model family health centre for the Red Sea State) and of the services of the health centre itself.
Background of the Project
The project aims to improve the quality of family and community medicine services in the city of Port Sudan, to strengthen the knowledge of the Medical Assistant and Nursing students at the Academy of Health Sciences on family medicine issues and to raise the level of awareness and information of the local community. The project donor is AICS.
Objectives achieved
A pilot trainership was implemented in February and involved 24 students of medical assistance, the Ahmed Gasim center was equipped and renovated. Maintenance work were carried out. An handbook on Family Medicine for medical assistants was designed. Tutors were trained. 29 students of nursing were trained. A scientific research was realized on "microbiological profile of semen culture among infertile patients with leucospermia". 36 people among health workers of the "Ahmed Gasim" and other medical doctors and volunteers were trained on family medicine. Theoretical and practical training of "Medical Assistant" and "Nursing" students organised by the AHS in the health centres in Port Sudan. The surrounding community sensitised and educated in the correct use of family medicine and good practices. Moreover, a training was implemented on financial management of health centres and awareness campaigns on family medicine to sensitize the population were carried out.A Manual for health centers on the correct use of pharmaceuticals was created under the scientific supervision of a doctor from the San Raffael Hospital in Milan.
