Francesco Bandello
Biography
Prof. Francesco Bandello is the Director of the Ophthalmology Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan. He is a Full Professor of Ophthalmology and the Director of the Ophthalmology Specialization School at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.
He is the President of the National College of Full Professors of Ophthalmology (CONPROSO), President of the ESASO Foundation (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology), President of the European Ophthalmological Academy, Vice-President of EuroLam, and Past President of EURETINA.
Prof. Bandello is the Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Ophthalmology, a Member of the American Ophthalmological Society (AOS), a Member of the Board of Directors of SISO (Italian Society of Ophthalmic Sciences), a Member of the National Technical Committee for the Prevention of Blindness and Low Vision, a Member of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis, and the National Academy of Medicine. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Jules Gonin Club and the Macula Society.
Prof. Bandello’s major research interests are in the field of retinal diseases (diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, venous and arterial occlusions, etc.), cataract, and the involvement of the visual system in systemic diseases.
He is a co-author of 12 books, has served as a peer reviewer for NEI funding applications, co-authored 1,045 articles in PubMed, and is the Principal Investigator in several clinical studies conducted according to ICH/GCP guidelines, mainly concerning retinal diseases.
