Vincenzo Salini
Biography
Professor Vincenzo Salini is the head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan and the lecturer at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Gabriele D'Annunzio in Chieti and there he specialized first in orthopaedics and traumatology and then in sports medicine.
His main scientific field is regenerative medicine and prosthetic surgery. In particular, he is involved in the study of different types of stem cells (including adipose tissue) and their use in medicine and the development of new devices for revision prosthetic surgery. His work also includes the evaluation of the role of orthobiology in the treatment of tendonitis, muscle injuries and pseudoarthrosis. During his career he has performed more than 6000 operations, of which at least 2800 relate to prosthetic surgery, 1000 to sports medicine and 2000 to traumatology.
In the laboratories of the Scientific Centre for the Study of Ageing of the G. D'Annunzio University Foundation, Professor Salini has been responsible for implementing preclinical trial protocols to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of amniotic fluid stem cells (AMF) in the field of orthopaedics and traumatology.
Regarding research activities, Professor Salini participates as investigator in the Prospective Outcome Study of the NCB Periprosthetic Proximal Femur Plate and the Multicentre National Quality Study for the Prevention of Thromboembolic Complications in Orthopaedic Surgery of the Italian Orthopaedic Registry, which are part of the Studio Giotto studies.
He has published several monographs, both in Italian and English, on stem cells and other orthopaedic issues. He is the author of more than 200 scientific articles, of which 130 have a significant impact factor. Since 2013 he has been a reviewer in various Italian and foreign journals such as Minerva Ortopedica e Traumatologica, Arthritis Care&Research, Indian Journal of Orthopedics and deputy editor of the Journal of Orthopedics.
He is President of the University Academy of Orthopaedics and Traumatology and is the member of the Board of Directors of AO Trauma Italia (2013), the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Arthroscopy and the Scientific Committee of RIPRO (Italian Registry of Prosthetic Joints) of the Higher Institute of Health (2014). He is an attending physician of the Società Sportiva Delfino Pescara 1936 S.r.l. and current member of the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
