Vlasta Fesslova
Biography
Dr. Vlasta Fesslova is the head of the Fetal Echocardiography Center at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan.
In 1968 she graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine at Charles University in Prague, and in 1971 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan. At the same university, she received a specialization in cardiology (in 1970) and anesthesiology and intensive care (in 1978).
In 1982-83, she attended as a researcher and then as a registrar the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at Freeman Hospital (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) and London Hospital for Sick Children (London, UK), and in 1987, as a researcher,University of California (San Francisco - USA), at the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Fetal Echocardiography.
She worked as an assistant cardiologist and then as an assistant cardiologist at the Milan Clinical Institute (1973-2002). She was an associate professor of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Milan (specialized course in Pediatrics and Neonatology) from 1991 to 2003.
Dr. Fesslova has been working at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato since 2003 as the Head of the Fetal Echocardiography Center.
A member of the Italian Society of Pediatric Cardiologists, and later of the European Association of Pediatric Cardiologists, she served as a consultant and coordinator of the fetal echocardiography group, organizing two Italian polycentric studies of fetal outcomes with congenital heart defects (in 1998 and 2000).
Participated in numerous Italian and international scientific congresses with the presentation of papers and the role of moderator, round tables and lectures; she participated in various training courses, and also organized 8 specialized and 5 master's courses on fetal echocardiography. She has published many scientific papers and theses, as well as 2 volumes of the Manual - Atlas of Fetal Echocardiography (in 1996 and 2008).
