Cardiology

Cardiology refers to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, which are the number one cause of mortality and morbidity in advanced societies.

Cardiology professionals of Gruppo San Donato aim at carrying out early diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, intervening before the most serious consequences (such as myocardial infarction, heart failure and sudden death) may occur.

Cardiology departments are divided into teams that collaborate with each other and with other departments to provide patients with most suitable and effective treatment performed according to the highest standards of care. For cases of high complexity which require a multi-specialist evaluation close collaboration is active with various teams.

At the San Raffaele Research Hospital Cardiology departments are conducting numerous clinical trials approved by the Ethics Committee and, where necessary, by the Italian Ministry of Health are underway to evaluate new therapies, among which:

• telecardiology projects that will allow the so-called “protected discharges” and the virtual visit of the patient at his/her home;
• research protocols for coronary heart disease;
• studies on new heart failure treatment approaches.
