Congenital Cardiology in Adults
Congenital heart disease are anatomical malformations of the heart and large vessels that occur at birth, due to incomplete or incorrect cardiac development during life of embryo or fetus.
Congenital Cardiology in adults of Gruppo San Donato poses a unique experience and were recognized as an international reference point for study and treatment of congenital heart disease in adult patients.
A dedicated Unit was opened in 2001. Together with advances in cardiac surgery and cardiology, it allowed to guarantee those patients a longer life expectancy and multiple therapeutic options.
In addition to congenital heart disease present since birth, those patients are not exempt from other diseases caused by aging. As a pioneer of the field, Gruppo San Donato had implemented an ad hoc model where pediatric cardiac surgery works side by side with that of acquired pathologies.
