Osteoarticular Infections
The Reconstructive Surgery and Osteoarticular Infections area specializes in the treatment of hip and knee prostheses infections and, in general, in complications of Orthopedic Surgery. A dedicated department, established at Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio in 2008, offers patients suffering from osteo-articular infection an advanced, valid, and effective diagnostic-therapeutic path. A collaboration with expert Radiology and Laboratory Services, equipped with the most innovative technologies available, contributes to an earlier and more effective surgical treatment that results in an improvement of the patients' quality of life.
Surgical strategies include use of advanced technologies such as biocompatible antibacterial coatings, new methods aimed at the treatment and eradication of prosthetic infections, use of bone substitutes with antibacterial power and, finally, the use of antibiotics with a long half-life that can be administered in the outpatient clinic, thus reducing the admission.
