Otoplasty
What is it?
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that entails the correction of the flap ears, or those with a protruding concha, those that are malformed or those that are excessively large and disproportionate.
When is this procedure indicated?
In flap ears, i.e. with the upper part of the pinna that is too detached from the head, or ears that are too far forward with prominent concha.
How is it performed?
It is a surgical procedure that can be performed under general anesthesia and in some cases under local anesthesia with sedation, with a duration varying from about 1 to 2 hours. It is possible to model only the pavilion with traditional technique, through the weakening of the cartilage at the level of the anthelix, the fold is recreated by positioning sutures that allow the maintenance of cartilage preservation with the new modeling. Another technique is the placement of prostheses type "Ear fold", golden prostheses that are applied under the skin and mimic mini clips in order to pinch the cartilage and thus shaping it. In the case of very developed or anterior ear conches it is possible to model them with or without removal of the same cartilage.
Recovery
Social life and working activities can be resumed after about 1-2 weeks avoiding physical exertion.
