Biography

Dr. Domenico Tamburrino is a medical officer at the Pancreatic Surgery Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, headed by Professor Massimo Falconi.

After graduating in Medicine and Surgery from the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome in 2008, he specialized in General Surgery at the University of Verona in 2015. From 2014 to 2016, he worked at the Royal Free Hospital in London in the "HPB and Liver Transplant" department as a Senior Clinical Fellow. He later earned a PhD in Digestive Oncology from La Sapienza University of Rome in 2020.

During his time in England, Dr. Tamburrino gained autonomy in the surgical treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB) tract tumors. Thanks to his experience in liver transplantation, he is skilled in performing complex vascular anastomoses, both arterial and venous.

Clinically, Dr. Tamburrino primarily focuses on treating benign and malignant diseases of the hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB) system, including:

  • Pancreatic tumors (adenocarcinoma, cystic neoplasms, neuroendocrine tumors),
  • Biliary tract tumors,
  • Neuroendocrine tumors (NET), particularly gastroenteropancreatic,
  • Acute and chronic pancreatitis,
  • Adrenal gland neoplasms,
  • Gallstone disease,
  • Surgical treatment of hernias/laparoceles.

He has performed over 1,000 major abdominal surgeries as the lead surgeon, using both traditional and minimally invasive approaches.

In terms of research, his main areas of interest include exocrine and endocrine pancreatic neoplasms and gastrointestinal tract tumors, as well as complications following pancreatic surgery.

Dr. Tamburrino is a member of the following scientific societies: Italian Pancreas Study Association (AISP), European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS), European Pancreatic Club (EPC), ItaNET, European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA), Italian Society of Surgery (SIC), Italian Society of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery (AICEP), Italian Society of Oncological Surgery (SICO), Association of Italian Hospital Surgeons (ACOI), and International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA).

He is also a board member of the Italian Multispecialty Society of Young Surgeons (SPIGC).
