Massimo Filippi

Biography

Professor Massimo Filippi is the Director of the Neurology Unit, the Neurophysiology Service, and the Neurorehabilitation Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. He is also responsible for the Functional Unit of the Bio-Signal Analysis Center and the current Director of the Quantitative Neuroimaging Research Unit of the Neuroscience Division at the same institute. He is a full professor of Neurology and the Director of the Neurology Residency School at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, where he is also the President of the Physiotherapy Degree Program, a member of the Academic Senate, and a member of the Steering Committee of the Interfaculty Center for Gender Studies.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 from the University of Milan, where he obtained his medical license. He then specialized in Neurology at the University of Milan (1990) and in Neurophysiopathology at the University of Pavia (1994). He began his academic career as a contract professor in the Neurology Residency School at the University of Chieti, in the Degree Program for Neurophysiopathology Technicians at the University of Milan, in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, and finally in the Neurology Residency School and the Degree Program in Physiotherapy at the same University.

He is a member of important scientific societies, such as the Italian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, the Italian Society of Neurology, the European Neurological Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, and the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He is a member of the Editorial Board of numerous international scientific journals and regularly reviews in the fields of neurology and neuroimaging, also for government agencies and private foundations. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurology and Associate Editor of the journals Radiology and Neurological Sciences. He has authored over 1000 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with a total H-index of 116 (Scopus), and 196 book chapters.
