A ministerial decree of May 2001 (n.279) provides for the establishment in Italy of a national network dedicated to rare diseases, through which to develop prevention actions, activate surveillance, improve interventions aimed at diagnosis and therapy, and promote information and training.
The network is made up of accredited centers, specifically identified by the regions as centers authorized to provide services aimed at the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases, according to agreed clinical protocols.
