Filippo Gagliardi
Biography
Dr. Filippo Gagliardi is a neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by Professor Pietro Mortini.
After graduating with honors from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Verona in 2006, he majored with honors in neurosurgery at the Vita Salute San Raffaele University of Milan in 2013. He completed his studies in 2016, having defended his doctoral dissertation in the field of neurology at the International Doctoral School of Molecular Medicine of the Vita-Salute University of Milan.
Dr. Gagliardi received the Karl Storz International Prize for research in the field of skull Base surgery (2012). He has also been a research associate in the Department of Neurosurgery at Ludwig Maximilian University (Munich, Germany) and in the Department of Neurosurgery at George Washington University (Washington, DC, USA), with whom he currently continues to collaborate on numerous research projects and periodic internships on site.
In 2011, he passed the written exam in neurosurgery in the "European Association of Neurosurgical Societies". In 2017, he received the national scientific qualification of a second-level neurosurgery teacher.
From a clinical point of view, Dr. Gagliardi mainly deals with brain and spinal cord tumor surgery, stereotaxy, stereotactic radiosurgery, as well as instrumental and minimally invasive spine surgery.
As a researcher, Dr. Gagliardi is actively involved in the development of clinical and preclinical research projects related to the molecular biology of the treatment of brain tumors, the molecular characterization of cancer stem cells and the development of innovative neuroimaging and radiogenomics protocols. Areas of clinical research include the development of new microsurgical methods and technologies for the treatment of brain and skull base tumors, as well as innovative models of neurosurgery training.
He was invited as a member of the scientific committee to numerous international courses and meetings in Europe, the USA and Australia. He has held invited conferences and seminars at Italian and foreign universities, including Macquarie University (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) and George Washington University (Washington, DC, USA).
He is the author of more than 60 scientific publications in international journals and numerous chapters of books on neurosurgery published by international publishers and online journals. His current Hirsch index is 13. In 2019, he published a book on surgical technique called "Operative cranial neurosurgical anatomy", distributed worldwide by an American publishing house.
