Biography
Dr Alessandro Saibene is the Head of the Clinical Nutrition Section of the Department of General Medicine, Diabetology and Endocrine-Metabolic in the Clinical Research Institute of Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by Professor Emanuele Bosi.
After graduating in 1983 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan, he specialized in diabetology and metabolic disorders and then in nutritional science at the Clinical Institute of Ospedale San Raffaele, but again under the auspices of the University of Milan, in 1987 and 1992, respectively.
Dr. Saibene manages inpatients in the Department of Medicine of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases and is a consultant nutritionist for the hospital. In particular, he is responsible for the therapeutic nutrition of all patients who have undergone bariatric surgery. He takes care of both patients with type II diabetes and patients with type I diabetes.
In terms of teaching, Dr. Saibene was a Visiting Professor at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in the dietetics course in the Department of Nursing Sciences in 2000-2005.
In terms of research, Dr. Saibene has focused primarily on areas such as obesity and type II diabetes during his career. He is the author of 64 publications in international scientific journals. He is a member of numerous scientific societies, such as SIO (Italian Society for the Fight against Obesity), where he is a founding member and advisor to the Lombardy Division, ADI (Italian Association for Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition), SICOB (Italian Society for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity), IFSO (International Federation for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity).
