Giovanni Cisternino
Biography
Dr. Giovanni Cisternino is a mammologist at the Breast Surgery Department of the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, headed by Dr. Oreste Gentilini.
After graduating with honors in 2014 from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of D'Annunzio in Chieti Pescara, he majored with honors in general surgery at the Alma Mater Studiorum in Bologna in 2020. He is currently enrolled in the Doctoral program of Surgery. Sciences of the XXXVI cycle at the Alma Mater Studiorum in Bologna.
From a clinical point of view, the doctor is engaged in breast cancer surgery and, in particular, surgical treatment of benign pathology and, above all, oncoplastic treatment of malignant breast diseases, conducting primary diagnosis and control visits of patients, follow-up of previously treated patients, observation of patients with genetic mutations and screening.
His surgical activity is dedicated to the treatment of breast cancer and risk reduction in patients with high genetic risk. He performs both conservative interventions (quadrant surgery, partial breast resection, tumor removal) and more radical interventions (total mastectomy, skin-preserving mastectomy, nipple-sparing and skin-reducing) in collaboration with other plastic surgeons.
In the research group of the San Raffaele Breast Department and in collaboration with the Ospedale Sant'Orsola Breast Department in Bologna, Dr. Cisternino is engaged in the following clinical studies: conservative and oncological breast surgery, breast and armpit surgery after surgery, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, signal lymph node biopsy, post-mastectomy breast reconstruction with prepectoral prostheses, the role of PET-MRI in the treatment of breast cancer.
He is the author and co-author of numerous publications in national and international scientific journals. Constantly participates in industry scientific congresses at the national and international levels.
