Giuseppe Peretti
Biography
Professor Giuseppe Peretti is Director of Complex Operative Unit and Head of the University Team of Regenerative and Reconstructive Orthopedics (E.U.O.R.R.) at IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi in Milan; he is Full Professor of Orthopedic Clinic at the University of Milan and Consultant Orthopedist at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina, where he deals with Regenerative Medicine in Orthopedics, articular cartilage lesions, hip and knee surgery, sports traumatology and arthroscopic surgery.
Since 2015, he has been Director of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialization School, University of Milan, which has the largest number of specialists in Orthopedics and Traumatology in Italy.
He graduated from the State University of Milan with honors. Then, he worked as a researcher for 5 years at Harvard University in Boston (USA) where he conducted numerous studies in repair of articular cartilage and menisci.
Professor Peretti is very active in the medical and research field. He has been awarded 9 international prizes for his regenerative medicine studies in Orthopedics, and since 2015, he has been co-Investigator in the European Union-funded project to use cartilage cells from the nasal septum to repair articular cartilage injuries in the knee.
He is Chairman of several scientific committees of international and national societies (ESSKA, TERMIS, SIGASCOT, ISSPORTH, SICOOP) and has published more than 600 papers recognized at the high national and international level. He also carries out scientific activity that includes more than 600 reports at national and international congresses. His contributions appear in the main international journals on Orthopedics and Traumatology and Regenerative Medicine.
In the Complex Operative Unit directed by Prof. Peretti more than 1000 surgical interventions are performed every year. The main pathologies treated at the Department directed by him are as follows:
- articular cartilage injuries
- knee capsular ligament injuries and patellar instability
- shoulder rotator cuff and shoulder capsular ligament lesions
- hip, knee and shoulder prosthetic surgery performed using minimally invasive techniques and instruments
In particular, the kinematic alignment in knee prosthesis and the anterior approach in hip prosthesis surgery, which allows complete muscle sparing and an early and wide articulation, have been introduced in recent years. Thanks to these techniques, patients undergoing total hip or knee arthroplasty are included in the "fast track" protocol that provides for rapid mobilization, safe discharge and autonomy of the patient. Prof. Peretti's team is an international teaching center for the anterior route in hip prosthesis and kinematic alignment in knee prosthesis.
In addition, in Casa di Cura La Madonnina, Prof. Peretti is dedicated to the treatment of articular cartilage lesions and Regenerative Medicine in the orthopedic field, with arthroscopic surgery and sports traumatology, as well as hip and knee prosthetic surgery.
Since 2007, every year he carries out a humanitarian mission at the Saint Jean de Dieu hospital in the village of Afagnan in Togo, where he carries out highly specialized surgical activities, outpatient and teaching activities for local medical and nursing staff as well as support activities for the construction of infrastructure for the population of Togo villages.
